Hello from the Midwest! It’s been a minute. Please excuse the long pause, there were many miles and milestones
that required my time and attention.

A new chapter has begun. A fresh, friendly, family-oriented life in a new city.  The wonder and awe that comes with a fresh perspective is inspiring, exciting and empowering. There are so many more people, places, ideas and experiences waiting for us outside of our bubble if we take a chance. It really is cooler by the lake!

Change is good.

You’ve probably heard that before. Sometimes it’s what we tell ourselves when we don’t believe it. Change is difficult for the human brain—it wants certainty, routine, predictability.

Our “survival brain” would keep us stuck. Lying to us that change is bad, making us fearful  and grasping onto what is at any cost. That fear makes us slip into our
old sabotaging patterns.

Business leaders who embrace change win. They are more nimble, positive, open minded, curious and accepting. All powerful qualities in a world and industry that doesn’t stand still.

The best way to get un-stuck is to try something new. A new thought or behavior. After all, our best thinking got us stuck in the first place! We can’t get unstuck using the same strategies that got us there.

But what do we do? We try doing the same things, just doing them HARDER.

+If I work longer hours, things will change

+If I push more, they will listen

+If I try harder, it will be better

Poor humans! We really do have a challenging lot.

You don’t need to uproot and move across the country, take an inventory of your skills and talents, and try a new one. Take a contrary action. If you usually go left, go right. If you usually stay at your desk, go for a walk. If you usually work alone, find a collaborator or colleague to talk it through. If you tend to control, have a good laugh (at yourself).

Simple, not easy. My 10-Week Mental Fitness Master Class is a great accelerant for new thoughts and new behaviors. Grab your spot today!

Journal Prompts:

  • What am I trying to solve by trying harder? How can I take a different approach?

  • Reflect on three times when change was good.
